independent work time (during which small group lessons take place).
Below is a list of the themes that we will be covering this year:
September:
     New Places, New Faces--
Starting school and making friends; and
Discovery Street--Our neighborhood and community helpers
October: Vroom!  Vroom!--Transportation, roads, and safety
November & December: Our Diner--Cooking and nutrition
January: Build It Big!--Construction, tools, simple machines, and jobs
February & March: Healthy Me!--Our physiology and staying healthy
April: Our Water Wonderland--Water in our world and the water cycle
May & June: Backyard Detectives--Investigating nature and life cycles
"Once children
perceive themselves as
authors and inventors,
once they discover the
pleasure of inquiry,
their motivation and
interest explode."
-Loris Malaguzzi,
creator of the Reggio
Emilia approach
