Admissions
The admissions process is designed to help Blue River Montessori School and
your family in determining if our learning environment is appropriate for your
child's needs.  Blue River Montessori School accepts children of any sex,
race, creed, ethnic origin, or disability and does not discriminate on these.
The admissions process includes submitting an
application form and fee,
participating in a family interview, and submitting a deposit upon acceptance.
All students must be properly immunized and are enrolled provisionally.  After
the child's first four weeks in the school, parents of new children may visit the
school and discuss their child's reaction to the program.

Calendar
BRMS follows the Duxbury Public Schools' (DPS) calendar regarding days in
session, holidays, and half-days (no afternoon session), with two exceptions:
the school is closed on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, and the school
year ends on the first Friday in June.  BRMS also follows DPS for inclement
weather closings, delays, early closings, and professional development days
We utilize professional development days that are scheduled on the DPS
Calendar as an opportunity for us to attend classes and learn new techniques,
strategies, and programs to support teaching and student learning.

Snacks
Due to the many different and potentially life-threatening food allergies, Blue
River Montessori School is a nut-free school.  We are asking that parents send
their children to school with two of their own
nutritious snacks, and to please
refrain from packing cough drops, candies, gum, cookies, etc.  An exception
to this rule will be made for class holiday or birthday parties.  Since eating
together provides a wonderful opportunity for grace and courtesy lessons, we
dedicate a part of our day to a group snack experience in both programs.  A
second snacks is eaten independently during work time.

Discipline Policy
Positive reinforcement, redirection, and time out of activity are acceptable
forms of behavior management utilized by Blue River Montessori School.  If
these measures fail to remedy an ongoing behavioral situation, a conference
with the parents/guardians and the school will be called to discuss a "team
approach" to assist the child in making more appropriate behavior choices.
For the protection of all children in the program, it is at the discretion of the
school to make the determination that the child's enrollment should be
reviewed or terminated in the case of uncontrollable disciplinary problems, or
in the event of certain, serious behavior or issues.
"It is not enough for
the teacher to love
the child. She must
first love and
understand the
universe. She must
prepare herself, and
truly work at it."
